Learn the moves by heart

The Blackjack Strategy Trainer 21 app deals you hands and grades every decision against the chart for your rule set. The hands you get wrong appear more often until you master them. It covers S17, H17 and European no-hole-card rules. Free on Android and on the App Store.

The rules behind the answers

Every answer is basic strategy for a six-deck shoe. The dealer checks for blackjack before you act, and you can double on any first two cards. You set the other three rules above: whether the dealer hits soft 17, whether you can double after a split, and whether the table offers late surrender. If the dealer hits soft 17, six answers change when late surrender is allowed, and three when it is not. Without double after a split, you split 2s, 3s, 4s and 6s against fewer dealer cards; when to split has the full pair table.

When your table does not let you double

Some tables let you double only on 9, 10 or 11. When the calculator says double down, it also gives the move for a table that does not allow it: hit, or stand on soft 18 and soft 19.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the blackjack calculator free?
Yes, for 3 answers on each device. After that, the calculator points you to the Blackjack Strategy Trainer 21 app, which is free on Android and on the App Store and has the full chart for your rule set. The strategy chart on this site is free and gives the same answers for tables where the dealer stands on soft 17, with double after a split and late surrender.
Which rules does the calculator cover?
A six-deck shoe where the dealer checks for blackjack and you can double on any first two cards. You choose whether the dealer stands or hits on soft 17, whether you can double after a split, and whether the table offers late surrender. It does not cover single-deck or double-deck games, or European tables where the dealer takes no hole card.
What if I have more than two cards?
The calculator answers for your first two cards. After you hit, basic strategy plays your new total from the chart, and you can no longer double or surrender. Where the chart says double, hit instead, or stand if your hand is soft 18 or soft 19. Where it says surrender, hit instead, or stand if your hand is hard 17.
Does the calculator count cards?
No. It gives basic strategy, which assumes a full shoe. Card counters change a few of these moves when the count is high or low.
